Summary

This multi-destination adventure offers more captivating desert landscapes, historical attractions and traditional Egyptian culture than you could ever hope for. First you’ll spend 3 nights at the luxurious Le Méridien Pyramids Hotel & Spa, located close to both the famous pyramids of Giza and downtown Cairo with its bustling markets and vibrant city life. On day four the voyage along the historic river Nile commences. Make sure you bring your camera so that you can captivate the beauty of the scenery, the temples, tombs and sphinxes you’ll get to see!

Day 1-3

After arriving in Cairo, you’ll spend 3 nights in the luxurious Le Méridien Pyramids Hotel & Spa.

Day 4

Flight to Luxor and transfer from the airport to your 5 star cruiser. Dinner and overnight stay in Luxor.

Day 5

After enjoying an early breakfast we’ll visit the West Bank where you’ll experience some of the most outstanding landscapes in Egypt. The West Bank is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world: here you’ll find the Valley of Kings where pharaohs are entombed in the nearby cliffs as well as the Valley of Queens that contains nearly 80 tombs, including the beautiful tomb of Queen Nefertiti. After lunch on board you’ll enjoy a relaxing sail to Esna, where we’ll be staying overnight.

Day 6

Breakfast will be followed by a short coach journey to Edfu to visit the most completely preserved pharaonic temple in Egypt: the fascinating Temple of Horus. The temple was buried in sand and only discovered in the mid nineteenth century. After some lunchtime sailing you’ll get to visit the Temple of Sobek overlooking the Nile in Kom Ombo. The temple is divided into two: the southern half is dedicated to the crocodile god and the northern half to the falcon god. After dinner we’ll sail on to Aswan for the night.

Day 7

Breakfast will be followed by a visit to the High Dam in Aswan that provides electricity to the villages along the Nile. Next stop is a visit to the Unfinished Obelisk that lies rooted to the bedrock of pink granite. The tour finishes with a visit to the magical Temple of Isis on Philae Island, followed by lunch and a leisurely boat trip around Elephantine Island and the Botanical Gardens on General Kitchener Island. If you’re up for it, you can go on an optional tour to the Nubian village in the afternoon – or just soak up some sun on the deck. Dinner will be followed by traditional entertainment in the form of a Nubian folk show. We’ll stay overnight in Aswan.

Day 8

If you’re an early bird you’ll have the opportunity to go on an optional excursion further south to the ancient Abu Simbel temples by air/road, priced at *£180.00 pp or by road at *£65.00 pp. This impressive site that stands on the edge of Lake Nasser was built by Ramses II to show his strength and power. Alternatively you can spend the morning relaxing on the sun deck. Lunch will be followed by a tranquil sail to Esna, where we’ll also stay overnight. After dinner you’ll get to experience a traditional Galabiya party where all guests will be invited to dress in Galabiyas (traditional Egyptian garment native to the Nile Valley) and join in on the fun.

Day 9

After breakfast, a visit to the partly excavated Temple of Khnum in Esna is on the agenda. This temple with beautiful astronomical ceilings is dedicated to the ram-headed god Khnum, who was the patron god of cataracts and is said to have shaped mankind from Nile clay on a potter’s wheel. After lunch we’ll sail back to Luxor, where you’ll enjoy dinner and stay the night.

Day 10

After breakfast we’ll go on a tour to the East Bank, where we’ll visit Luxor Temple that is joined to Karnak by a stunning avenue of sphinxes. Karnak, or ‘The World’s Greatest Open Air Museum’, covers a vast area and includes several temples. After lunch there’ll be leisure time with the opportunity to visit the Luxor Museum. Dinner with an opportunity for an optional Karnak Sound and Light show priced at *£22.00 per person.  The night will be spent in Luxor.

Day 11

The last breakfast of this trip is followed by check out and transfer to Luxor International Airport from where your journey home begins.

Please note: the order or content of your itinerary may be amended due to lock closures, low water levels or any other unforeseeable circumstances. Due to the large numbers of cruise boats on the Nile, when docked in Aswan and Luxor it is highly likely that other boats will moor alongside your boat. Occasionally, due to operational difficulties, a change of vessel can occur. However, the sightseeing itinerary will remain the same. Traditionally, a tip is expected at the rate of £4.00 per person per night which includes coach drivers, bell boys, housekeeping staff, engine crew and bar/restaurant staff. Additional tipping is not expected
