A six or nine-night Italian escapade with scenic train travel between three beautiful hotels in Genoa, Turin and Milan, includes breakfast, flights and inter-city train transfers

You'll begin in Genoa, which boasts romantic vibes aplenty, with its idyllic situation overlooking the Ligurian Sea. Picture a city full of hanging gardens and narrow, winding streets that weave charmingly through a medieval Old Town steeped in history. The capital of the coastal region of Liguria, this historic port city was made a European Capital of Culture in 2004 – and to this day, it continues to give rivals Rome, Florence and Venice a good run for their money. Christopher Columbus was born here, and Genoa boasts one of Europe's biggest aquariums. Luxurious boutiques sit alongside ornate churches, all blanketed in a swathe of pastel-coloured rooftops to create an enchanting and quintessentially Italian city.

You'll continue your Italian escapade in Turin, the capital of the Piedmont region of northwest Italy. Here, sports cars and chocolate are a matter of pride and the city plays host to the Museo Egizio, one of the most impressive collections of Egyptian artefacts in the world. A meander along some tree-lined boulevards to Piazza Castello and down the Via Roma will encompass many of the must-see sights of the city. Located along the west bank of the River Po, Valentino Park is worth a visit too - housing a stunning 18th-century castle surrounded by botanical gardens and a medieval village. You'll go back in time with a two or three-night stay in a glamorous 19th-century mansion hotel, before boarding a train to Milan.

Hopping on another train northbound, you'll head up to Milan, with two or three nights in one of the most fashionable cities in the world. A paradise for shoppers and foodies alike, make the most of the city’s many delights at the Liberty-style Doria Grand Hotel in the northeast of the city. Be sure to visit the city's grand Gothic cathedral – the Duomo – which lies at the geographical heart of this one-time Imperial Roman capital.

Location
Flaunting a dead-central location in Genoa, Hotel NH Genova Centro is a stone's throw from the Carlo Felice opera house and is set between two train stations (Piazza Principe and Genova Brignole), making whizzing across the city a breeze. The Villetta di Negro restaurant specialises in Ligurian seafood dishes and other Italian favourites, while a daily breakfast buffet is piled high with seasonal fruit, freshly baked croissants, and cold meats.

Room Type Standard Twin/Double
Warm and inviting, rooms either favour a modern interior scheme or are classic in design, some with parquet floors and a view of Piazza Corvetto square.

MYSTERY

She spent time with me working out all the finer details. The original destination I didn’t want to go to and the flights were not very nice times. So she talked through other destinations and flight times.

Great service throughout , we had exactly what we expected and would use Viva again

Service rating : The experience was excellent. The guides were very informative and they knew their history,

The hotels were an excellent choice and all staff were very helpful and polite.

The only bad experience was being taken to shops/workshops where we were shown items of jewellery, clothing or shown how traditional works are done and (although not expected or pressurised) felt that the vendor tried to sell the items to us when we did not wish to purchase any of them. I did not pay to be taken to these places and did feel very uncomfortable when the patrons told us that we would only need to pay (an amount) and they would ship this direct to our house, no hassle!!! we did tell the last guide that we did not want to go to any of these shops/workshops.
Product : excellent value for money

Viva holidays were very helpful however there was no transfers included in the package. Which left us to sort it out ourselves plus the hotels were very far from the city centre.
Their customer service was really good.
