A fantastic trip to Norway's Oslo, Bergen and Tromsø, with one of the world's most scenic train journeys - includes breakfast and flights

Nature's been kind to Norway, gifting it breathtaking mountains and serene fjords. It's a place with a charm that's all its own, contrived from its Viking-laden history and atmospheric natural light, be it bright high summer or the dulcet winter dark. This escape takes in three of Norway's most popular cities: Oslo, Bergen and Tromsø.

You'll start with two or three nights in Oslo, kicking back at Scandic Holberg, set in an ideal location with views over the impressive opera house. It lies just a short walk from many of the city's best sights, such as the National Gallery and the Town Hall, while Slottsplassen and the Royal Palace, with its surrounding park, are just a leisurely amble away.

Next, you'll hop aboard the train to travel some of the world's highest tracks as you journey towards Bergen on Norway's west coast. The Bergensbanen railway is a feat in itself, charging its way through 308 miles of tricky terrain and climbing some 1,200 metres to do so. An impressive 182 tunnels were forged through the landscape's gneiss rock, between which you'll watch the scenes roll by, be them serenely snow-capped or breathtakingly vast.

Arriving in Bergen, you'll make your way to your dead-central hotel, which sits on Vågen Bay. Bryggen, a UNESCO-protected wharf that displays a traditional style of architecture, is achingly close (you can even view it from parts of the hotel), while other attractions are within walking distance, such as Bryggen Museum, Bergen Museum and the Hanseatic Museum and Schøtstuene.

You’ll wind up in Tromsø's Clarion Collection Hotel Aurora with a two or three-night stay. Here, you’re at the heart of northern Norway's largest city with panoramic views of the nearby mountains, fjords and beautiful Arctic Cathedral. A fifth-floor relaxation area comprising of a sauna, gym and an outdoor, rooftop Jacuzzi will also help you make the most of the stunning vistas. Contemporary guest rooms and a restaurant menu focused on organic ingredients, offer a contemporary Norwegian experience.

Location
Thanks to the superb central location of the Scandic Holberg, you can explore the city on foot, with Slottsparken, Bogstadveien, Majorstua and Karl Johans gate all within walking distance. Head to the hotel's charming restaurant for a buffet breakfast after a comfortable night's sleep in your stylish room, or stop off at the lobby bar for an aperitif before dinner. With shops, restaurants and theatres right on your doorstep, you won't be short of things to explore during your stay. Please note that the hotel restaurant is available for lunch and dinner on request only.

She spent time with me working out all the finer details. The original destination I didn’t want to go to and the flights were not very nice times. So she talked through other destinations and flight times.

Service rating : The experience was excellent. The guides were very informative and they knew their history,

The hotels were an excellent choice and all staff were very helpful and polite.

The only bad experience was being taken to shops/workshops where we were shown items of jewellery, clothing or shown how traditional works are done and (although not expected or pressurised) felt that the vendor tried to sell the items to us when we did not wish to purchase any of them. I did not pay to be taken to these places and did feel very uncomfortable when the patrons told us that we would only need to pay (an amount) and they would ship this direct to our house, no hassle!!! we did tell the last guide that we did not want to go to any of these shops/workshops.
Product : excellent value for money

Viva holidays were very helpful however there was no transfers included in the package. Which left us to sort it out ourselves plus the hotels were very far from the city centre.
Their customer service was really good.
